Zoku provides a home base for travelling professionals who are living and working in a city for periods from a few days to a few months.
You could call Zoku a re-invented apartment hotel – in fact – it creates a new category in the hotel industry: a home-office hybrid with hotel services, which is a relaxed place to live, work and socialize with like-minded people while getting wired into the city.
Business travel can often be lonely and uninspiring. This is the place for you to quickly get rooted in the city, join inspirational talks and connect with your neighbors and the locals.
Facilitating global living and working, Zoku is a new category in the hotel industry: A home-office hybrid, also suitable for long stays, with the services of a hotel and the social buzz of a thriving neighborhood. It’s a place to call your second home from your first visit. Zoku is optimally suited for people living and working in a city for a few days to several months. Zoku offers the international travelling professional – the global nomad – a home base with both a smart Zoku Loft (private areas) and social spaces (communal areas) to work, sleep, play, meet and live in.
Personal and professional lifestyles are changing. Boundaries between work and leisure are fading. Blurring borders have made people more mobile than ever. Internet gave us new opportunities for progression: driven by advanced technology and a better infrastructure, people from a variety of backgrounds, nationalities and disciplines are part of a growing collaborative travelling business movement. They work for companies or outside traditional employment relationships. While demand rises, a home designed for these travelling professionals was still missing…
These global nomads don’t only work during local working hours but also across time zones. Whether they work for a company or are independent, they are members of networks with like-minded professionals from different businesses, cultures and backgrounds. They travel light and are passionate about what they do. While demand is rising, the hospitality industry was still missing a home designed for these travelling professionals…
While the online connection is strong within this tribe, the formation of an offline connection – a real and physical one – is still lacking. Traditional hotels or serviced apartments can be pretty lonely and are often no more than a shelter where you have to adapt rather than the other way around. Instead of more of the same, the world desperately needs smarter solutions for this growing demand: a business/living environment that feels homey, is topped with professional services and offers a fun social structure that allows global nomads to easily get rooted in the local scene. And by skipping the frills, embracing clever multifunctional space usage, intelligent technology and smart design, such a place could be sustainable as well… This is where Zoku got started.
Zoku has been designed for international entrepreneurs, self-employed professionals, project managers, management consultants and free movers-and-shakers. They share entrepreneurial interests and are curious and open-minded. They can be individuals as well as groups like project teams, incubators, start-ups and due diligence teams.
Zoku’s target audience is a mix of around 65% men and 35% women, between ages 25 and 45, from all across the globe, who live and work in a city for a period between 5 days and 3 months. They value being able to work efficiently at any time of the day. They blend work and leisure into an interesting mix where work becomes play and play becomes work. They find fast and reliable Wi-Fi to be a hotel’s most important asset and get annoyed when good working conditions are disturbed or not provided for. They also find that most accommodations are only suitable for staying, and do not cater to their needs related to living and working. Collaborating and creating are important to them, since they love sharing ideas between all sorts of people from different professional and cultural backgrounds – they believe that even the smallest things in life will make a difference. With this positive “Carry On” attitude, our global nomads like to make friends in every new location (otherwise they tend to get lonely), but also in locations they’ve never been before through social media. They are a big fan of the online world and blog or Skype to let their family and friends know what they’ve been up to. Global nomads embrace smart solutions and are curious and open minded to new products and services. They appreciate comfortable and functional surroundings that are also inspiring through design. They love helping by giving advice to other travelers, and love being helped with advice in return. Top reasons for them being interested in Zoku: an inspiring design atmosphere, a social structure giving the global nomad a local social life, and the combining of living and working functionally as it also exists in their daily lives (i.e. the offering of comfort and ease).
150 interviews with the target audience and 6 prototypes which were validated by between 100 – 150 people each have gone into creating the end of the hotel room as we know it: The award-winning Zoku Loft is a spacious micro apartment suitable for both living comfortably and working efficiently. In a regular hotel room or studio apartment, the bed always dominates. At Zoku, a big kitchen table serves as the focal point and allows you to easily invite both friends or colleagues into your home. The Zoku Loft can be personalized and is an ideal base of operation, combining comfort and efficiency for both work and play.
The Zoku Loft is a spacious micro apartment equally suited for living and working. It is designed for spacious living on only 24 – 30m2, inviting friends and colleagues into your home, working across multiple time zones and getting any job done. With the ability to screen off your sleeping area, the whole loft can be further adjusted to become cozy, business-like or something in between. The Zoku loft can be personalized and comes with all the necessary residential and business facilities. In a regular hotel room or studio apartment, the bed always dominates. At Zoku, a big kitchen table serves as focal point. Use it to work across time zones, host dinner parties or gently rest your head after making deadline. In short, the Zoku Loft is an ideal base of operation, combining comfort and efficiency for both work and play.
While rentable by the night, Zoku Lofts are especially designed for those seeking temporary residence between a few days and several months.

When living and working abroad, global nomads are surrounded by the ‘exotic’, yet can often feel bored, lonely and uninspired. Zoku believes that “amazing things can happen when people come together”. Our mission is to mix together like-minded individuals under one roof – aligning our international residents with internationally minded locals. We expanded the definition of a hotel to make it a platform where knowledge, ideas and people can mingle on a daily basis. Regular events will bring you in direct contact with inspiring individuals and companies – to exchange concepts, products and life lessons. But Zoku in itself is a regular event: our social spaces allow for easy interaction with your neighbors. It’s just a matter of going upstairs to join a pub quiz, watch a movie, play some Ping-Pong or jam the night away. Our ultimate goal is to broaden your network, social circles and horizons.
A place you can call a second home, even on your first visit.
So much more than a long stay hotel. It’s a neighborhood.
Where the neighbors borrow more than a cup of sugar.
They share ideas and ambitions.
They mix the local lowdown with the global highlights.
Where the word on the street keeps you streets ahead.
For this is a ‘good company’ company where everyone can bring their dreams to the table.
Where those busy connecting the world can catch up with each other and the scene surrounding them.
Smart and uncompromising, Zoku is a hive of smart lofts and friendly spaces, designed so you can stay connected, well rested and throw yourself into your work, your play and our city.
This is a place that is furnished to fit, not to split.
Encouraging each other to live, not exist.
To dream, not sleep.
To smarten up, rather than dumb down.
To go at it together, rather than alone.
Together we can work hard, play strong and rest easy.
Whilst we blur borders, combine cultures and live our dreams.
